Our team worked really really hard and we believe that we've improved a lot. We never gave up on trying although we failed multiple times. At first our idea was to find freelancers but from our survey and interviews, most of the interviewees wanted to become tutors. That’s why we developed the idea into Futor. We learn from our failures and use them to fulfill the best outcome possible. We are also super lucky to have such a hard working and caring mentor. This made us realize that hearing the mentor in the meeting and working with my team are excellent ways to improve our project.

Why need to choose FUTOR not other platforms?

Futor is a platform developed to solve user’s problems such as tutors going off topic, tutors not having solid background and teaching experience, students wasting time trying to book a class through many processes, or even students needing advice but not knowing who to go to. And at the same time, tutors are struggling with reaching new students or get canceled at the last minute. Each feature in our platform is also designed based on the needs of more than 300 tutors and parents that we interviewed, which we believe will make it easy to use and responsive for both sides of the users.

Why do you name this startup futor?

It comes from future and tutor. “Tutors for your Future”.

Why is it cost effective?

Because Futor will verify that tutors on our platform are good and qualified tutors, whether confirming their past scores, their teaching experiences or their educational background.

Why an effective learning curriculum?

Because we have class objectives to avoid off-topic discussion.

Why free consultation?

So there is someone to guide students to the right path without having to worry about money and we want our users to succeed.

How to reach more students?

We will focus on setting up education booths at several top schools in Thailand and at education events such as Open House.

Why tutors who are not a college student?

Some students prefer learning with college students , some don’t. We want to provide as many options as possible for our students. This is ,like we said in the second slide, also a good opportunity for tutors to find more students and many more.

Why have tutors who are college students?

When we interviewed 400 university students all around bangkok universities for a collance project, we found that most of the students wanted to work as a tutor. Apart from that, college students all have experienced the entrance process, they are able to give useful and direct advice. Slide 29.

Why interview only 4 faculties to know that college students want to be a tutor?

Where the tutors base is for students to know their proximity with tutors when they desire to learn off site classes.

A tutor’s background information is for students to see who could have a good fit with them and also ensure the students of the tutors’ potential. Moreover, good background can benefit tutors by attracting trust from students.

Why need tutors’ account numbers?

This is the channel to transfer the monthly income of tutors. It is also easier to track the transactions and is verifiable.

Why need students’ background information?

According to our survey, students would like to know their students background information before teaching them.

Why need students’ top 3 faculties choice?

So, tutors can focus on which parts they should improve more or focus more in order to get into one of their top choices.

Why need students’ past scores?

In order to define objectives for each class and to know students' understanding on where to improve or where to focus on.

What do you mean by class objective?

Our curriculum consists of mock exams before and after the class. Class objective specifies a skill that a student can demonstrate if they have achieved the objective so students and tutors will know what will be achieved as a result of the tutoring, so that parents can see what students are working towards, and so that tutor can measure and report on progress.

Where will you get the mock exam papers?

From my experience, most accurate questions can be found through college board papers online. Some books like Princeton and College panda also offer very accurate college entrance questions. I think there are many channels to find mock exam papers.

What do students usually do during consultation?

Our first counseling session mainly focuses on guiding kids on where they should aim to go. introducing them to faculties that they would be interested in. then for the following sessions would be where to focus on and possible outcomes from their scores.

Why do you show all tutors who are teaching each subject?

The user can see tutors in each subject by clicking the course name button.

Why need a tutor portfolio?

A tutor portfolio is for students to see who could have a good fit with them and also ensure the students of the tutors’ potential. Moreover, tutors benefit from having their good portfolio. They can attract more students with their good profile.

Why need tutors’ examination scores?

To assure students that their tutors really understand the thing that they are teaching.

Why need important teaching details?

So when a student or parent looks at his/her portfolio, they can see that they are available with the given pay rate, type of learning, and available learning places that the tutor prefers.

Why need in-class teaching videos?

To see whether the student likes the style of teaching.

Why required to pay in advance?

To avoid last minute cancellations. The cancellation is only allowed a minimum of 24 hours before the class, or extra fee will be charged.

Why provide a counseling program?

So there is someone to guide students to the right path.

Why provide information about university entrance requirements?

To guide students’ decision making process.

Who will be the counselor?

We will be the counselors first as we all have experiences: however, we will hire the potential counselor to keep up with more numbers of students.

Why book consultation online?

Consultation booking is also available through mobile phone and chatbot.

Where do you get all the statistics from?

All the statistics are collected from the officials of that faculty and are updated yearly.

Who did you interview to know the improvement needed for low fidelity prototype?

Parents and Tutors. Parents because they are the decision makers(slide 30). (slide 41)

How does having a fixed schedule make a difference?

To make parents and students ensure that tutors will cover the specific topic in each class.

What advantage do you have more for offering only international programs?

In terms of resources, we have connections with university students who might become tutors on our platform and we also understand what students expect or experience as we have been through.

Why use high school students in grade 10-12?

These students are students who are studying to get into college. These years are accounted by the most important years of one's life because they are the years that decide which college they will attend.

Why only 3% of all students will be the users?

As it is our first year, we aim for 3% but as we expand our platform for all international schools in Bangkok as well as in other major cities, we expect the growth rate to increase and aim for a higher percentage.

Why 1,000 THB for commission?

Because the tutors and students we interviewed mostly have class for 2 hours and at 500 THB per hour. So, we will collect 10% of their first class which will be 1,000 THB. (slide 42)

Where did you get the number for revenue projection?

Slide 24, total revenue per year during 5 year, 2022-2026.

How did you know students used an average of 5 tutors while trying to get into university?

We have interviewed more than 200 students who are currently high school students and college students, which most use more than 3 tutors (sat math, sat writing/reading, and ielts) which we have calculated the average of 5 tutors per person.

You're going to only get 5 maximum schools for senior talk. How is that going to be worth it?

It’s worth it because we will reach our target audience effectively in those schools as it is a specific market. All of us have been studying in a total of more than 10 international schools and in the future we believe we could expand to all international schools in Bangkok.

How effective do you think each channel is? Why do you think each channel is worth it?

Each offsite channel is where our target market is. Offsite channels also allow us to have face-to-face communication with parents and students to show what Futor offers and Why Futor?. Moreover, online channels are cost-and-time effective. We can reach a large number of students.

Why is this going to be your final prototype? Have you tested before?

Based on the interview, 95% showed satisfaction over the website and can go through the instructions we set for them. This will be our final prototype, but we will keep improving and making some changes to meet the needs of our users.

Do you think the profit is a lot?

From the projected five year financial, it is obviously not because of high overhead costs. However, after we successfully target students in Bangkok, we will expand to other big cities like Chiang Mai, Phuket where we think we will cover costs and enjoy the profits with more students who will join our platform.
